Our Leica M4 film test included a bit of fun at one of our Old School Camera Club meetings. The camera was taken along to the club to take a group photo but it ended up being passed around so everyone could try it out. After that the camera was taken for a walk around Central Park and the city centre to finish the film. The photos were shot using Ilford HP5 film and a yellow filter. The camera is fitted with a Summicron 50mm f2 dual range lens with the goggles attachment.
There is a quality feel to a Leica when you hold them, and the Leica M4 has this. The range finder is bright and clear when you look through and focus. There are frame lines within the viewfinder to guide you with whichever each lens you have fitted.
The Leica M4 was made between 1967 and 1975 and had several improvements over the M3 including faster film loading and rewinding and a self resetting film counter.
