Photowalk June 2022
As I threw the curtains open on the first Sunday of the month, ready for the regular diary entry of a Soper Photographic photo walk, there was a tinge of disappointment. Wet, dreary and the threat of what looked like more rain meant shelving plan A, Graflex, slow film and glass plates went back on the shelf and the reliable Canon A-1 loaded with TMax 400 with the asa spun to 200, ready!
I arrived at the shop in good time, relieved at no organisation to do having passed the leadership baton to Shay. I think most would agree, urban street work, on the hoof is not my comfort zone, Shay’s loose theme of Jubilee was a harder than you’d imagine for jubilee weekend with barely a frayed bit of bunting to be seen.
I didn’t really get into my stride until we exited the city centre at Milbay, once we were wandering the little alleys in and around the lockdown street gallery my shutter button started to warm up. My best hour was spent at the Rendle St art festival, small but interesting. I like to think my best frames were taken here , there was a bar too! A pint and a fist full of scampi fries were very welcome. Another hour of meandering around the harsh concrete jungle that is Western approach multi story car park gave some interesting vantage points without a parked car to be seen. From there I pretty much just enjoyed the banter as we headed back to base.
Twas nice to see the regular faces, pleased to be out photographing with Will for the first time this year and two new friends in Simon and Seb. Thank you to Shay for her good work, also Russell and Roma for laying it on.
