Soperfect images Photo walk
As many of you know my good friend Russell owns and runs a
classic camera shop here in Plymouth England, I will where I can, unashamedly
promote said establishment. Russell isn’t just about the bottom line though, he
is keen to spread the film love around the community. With this in mind and as
a little celebration of the move into bigger premises an invite went out to all
the regulars he knows and anyone else interested for a little photo walk to
meet likeminded folks.
Fifteen bodies gathered at the shop on Sunday 24th
march and a plan was hatched, 3hrs – 2 meet points and freedom in-between,
mingling groups were encouraged to get to know everyone. I was charged by
Russell to record some of it, I was handed a little Pentax MX loaded with Kodak
TMax 400, a 35mm and 100mm lenses and a yellow filter.
I took my challenge seriously, stalking like coiled spring
ready to record this important occasion for all time! I was treated to the
usual photographers being photographed scenario, ducking, diving, and turning
of heads and a regular finger from the equally grumpy Sarah. I gave up proper
metering settling for a quick check meter at locations and trying to adjust by
feel as I went, it had mixed success but I got pictures.
We had a twin Yashica 124g partnership, 2 x 4x5, one a shiny
new intrepid with Hugh which made for great conversation and interest. Bernie
discovered a 24 exposure roll in a Nikon f4 won’t get you to the first stop. I
worked so hard rehydration was necessary so a forced stop at the Pub on the Hoe
was needed, I had the enthusiastic Will and Sienna for company for 1!!! Quick
pint, unlike Rosie and John who went for the full Sunday roast. John by the way
turned up with no camera but a canvass and a bag of acrylic paints…has to a
first!
I think everyone had a great time, it was over far too quick
and an opportunity to socialise after was missed…next time, bigger and better! Thank you Russell and all who came.
Update from Will - Attached are the three XPAN shots I took on the photo walk. What a great day! FP4 @ ISO 125 in ILFOSOL
